Can't see global chat

I get this error:

Couldn't connect to irc.geekshed.net #tabletopsimulator! Reason: Could not connect to: irc.geekshed.net:6667 An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. Exception of type 'yIRC.NotConnectedException' was thrown

As a result, I cannot connect to global chat.

I run Windows 7 and I am running Tabletop v9.8.1

What is your name that you are using to connect? If you have funny characters in your Steam name, it's unable to read it. Try changing it and seeing if that works. Then you can type /nick NEWNAME to have that always be your name and then switch your Steam name back to what it was. And that should work.
