Four 'spaces' instead of a Tab

If in TTS when I press Tab, it adds four 'spaces'
But if in Notepad++ I add a Tab, in TTS don't show Tabs

    that is so inconvinient

Spaces instead of tabs are a standard in moderns IDEs.

You can change the Tab Settings for Lua in Notepad++, I have mine set so when I press Tab it adds four spaces.

What's the difference? What is whitespace all about?

Tab is a different character than spaces and has no clear, standardized way of being displayed (formatted). So most editors just use spaces instead and convert tab to 2/4 spaces so it still works as an indent.
